Oak Hills used a big seventh inning to keep its season alive with a 6-3 win over Loveland in Tuesday’s Division I softball sectional final. After tying the game in the top of the sixth inning, the Highlanders plated three runs in the top of the seventh to get the win.
Junior Lauren Slatten earned the victory for Oak Hills, striking out 12 batters to improve her season total to a city-best 346 strikeouts for the year. Sophomore second baseman Sammy Sagers was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while senior designated player Nikki Streder was 2-for-4 with an RBI .
Oak Hills tied the game, 3-3, in the top of the sixth inning with a pinch-hit RBI from Chrissy Bauer. That set the stage for the seventh inning, which was started by Streder.
After getting on base to start the inning, Streder was knocked in by junior center fielder Devan Colebank to give the Highlanders the lead. Oak Hills tacked on two more runs, thanks in large part to two wild pitches.
The Highlanders (17-12) will play Northmont at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Lakota East.
Friday night Junior Kevin Konkoly finished 1st in the 400meter, 1st in the 200 meter, and 2nd in a photo finish in the 100 meter. This feat earned him the GMC Most Valuable Runner award for the second year in a row. Overall the boys finished in 4th , just 2 1/2 points out of 3rd. Girls and boys will compete at Districts this Wednesday and Friday. Go Highlanders!
Emma Zimmer, Jenna Haarmeyer, Ellie Cunningham, and Gabriella Kain broke the 4×400 relay record on Friday night with a time of 4:04.55. This performance got them a 5th place finish in the race, a testament to just how tough the GMC is in track and field.
They sit 2nd in the district right now and top four teams move on to Regionals. Congratulations and Good Luck!!
